Tolerance is important in the development of any community. Tolerance shows respect for others opinions or beliefs which may differ from ones own. Tolerance is also a tool that can be used to foster peace and recognition of the fact that we can live in harmony despite our differences.
In every community, individuals have varying religious beliefs, political leanings. Where tolerance is not present, it can create unwanted divisions within the community. Diversity gives us an opportunity to learn about each other and to stretch our horizons and to appreciate our respective differences across race, ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs, age, ability and tribal differences.
Even with the best of intentions, it sometimes isn’t easy to do but as we interact with others in our teams, at offices, and at our religious organizations we are usually tested both directly and indirectly. We are tested by language and actions that range from unintentionally hurtful to atimes hate speech and behavior.
However we must ensure that voices of tolerance, compassion and civility takes its place. We must do all we can to embrace diversity in all its forms and strive for an inclusive community.
We should be open by freely exchanging ideas with mutual respect and consideration of our differences.
We should promote mutual respect, trust and support to foster bonds that strengthen community.
We should seek to advance common goals through reasonable and realistic practices, procedures and expectations.
We should celebrate the heritage, achievements and diversity of the community and the uniqueness or contributions of our members.
WE ARE ALL MEMBERS OF JUST ONE RACE – The human race and we share ONE HOME (Planet Earth) .
