Championing Intentional Support for Boys in a Changing World

As the world marks the International Day of the Boy Child, the Child and Youth Protection Foundation (CYPF) joins this global observance to spotlight the unique needs, struggles, and strengths of boys in Nigeria and beyond.

The 2025 theme, “Empowering Boys for a Better Tomorrow,” is a timely reminder that boys, just like girls, deserve focused attention, tailored interventions, and safe spaces to grow into healthy, emotionally balanced, and socially responsible men.

For CYPF Nigeria, the day is more than a celebration—it’s a call to action. Through its flagship initiative, the Boy Child Conversation (BCC), CYPF has led ongoing efforts to center the boy child in national discourse. The BCC platform creates awareness about the vulnerabilities boys face, including violence, academic neglect, mental health stigma, exploitation, and harmful gender expectations.

While advocacy for girls has rightfully gained momentum in recent years, CYPF emphasizes that leaving boys behind in the process creates long-term social imbalances. Addressing the challenges boys face is essential for building gender-equitable, non-violent communities.

CYPF’s Commitment

CYPF continues to promote a holistic and inclusive approach to child protection and development. Its work with boys includes:

  • Mentorship and life skills education

  • School retention and performance support

  • Awareness on gender equity and healthy masculinity

  • Community dialogues with parents, educators, and youth leaders

On this International Day of the Boy Child, CYPF calls on policymakers, educators, caregivers, community leaders, and development partners to act with urgency. Boys must be given platforms to express themselves, access support services, and become positive agents of change in their communities.
