ICT for Girls

The ICT for Girls program aims to build and improve Information Technology skills for girls in government primary and secondary schools. Technology has slowly become a necessary commodity in our society, and education is one critical sector that thrives on it for effective learning. However, there is a significant gap in girls’ digital adoption compared to boys, as girls have lower digital access and use. This is further amplified by the lack of ICT facilities, resources and teachers in government schools, and without increased adoption and use, girls have limited opportunities and may face additional barriers in the future. This informed the decision to commence ICT training for girls in schools to empower them to reach their full potential.

The program is run in four government schools – LEA Aleyita, LEA Lugbe, JSS Kunchingoro and JSS Aleyita. We developed an ICT Child-friendly Training manual, conduct weekly ICT Training, and carry out assessments at the end of the Term.

While girls were the primary focus and beneficiaries, we realized boys in public schools also lacked the basic ICT knowledge during our training. Hence, we also carry out ICT training for boys in these schools. To further support the program, we have donated desktop computers to some beneficiary schools to support and aid their learning.

ICT for girls has proven beneficial for girls and boys in our beneficiary schools to build and enhance their ICT skills and bridge educational inequalities.
