PRESS RELEASE
ABUJA, NIGERIA – NOVEMBER 25, 2025
The Child & Youth Protection Foundation (CYPF Nigeria) has announced the launch of its national campaign to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, from November 25 to December 10, 2025, joining the global call to “UNITE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”
This year’s campaign also coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, one of the most progressive global commitments to women’s rights. It reinforces the urgent call for governments, civil society, and technology platforms to take stronger action to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls, both online and offline.
Digital violence, including cyberstalking, image-based abuse, online harassment, and gendered disinformation, has become one of the most fastest-growing forms of gender-based violence. According to UN Women, nearly 38% of women globally have experienced online violence, while 90-95% of all deepfake content online depicts women in non-consensual sexualized imagery. The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has further intensified these harms, creating new risks for women’s safety and participation in digital spaces.
“Digital platforms, while tools for connection, have also become new frontiers for gender-based violence,” said Kolawole Olatosimi, National Coordinator of CYPF Nigeria. “Our campaign is a direct response to this. We are committed to laying the foundation for a good future for our youth by creating a safe, inclusive society where they can thrive, both online and offline. We must not stay silent while digital abuses silence young voices.”
