CYPF Calls for Renewed Commitment to Education and Skills Development as Nigeria Marks Children’s Day 2025

As Nigeria prepares to commemorate Children’s Day on May 27, the Child and Youth Protection Foundation (CYPF) is joining voices across the country to highlight the urgent need to prioritize children’s education and life skills as a foundation for their well-being, protection, and future contribution to society.

This year’s theme, “Enhancing the Total Wellbeing of Children Through Quality Education and Skill Development,” speaks to the heart of CYPF’s mission: ensuring that every child not only survives but thrives.

Across the country, millions of children still lack access to quality education, safe learning environments, and the opportunity to develop critical life and vocational skills. For children in underserved and vulnerable communities, this gap often leads to a cycle of poverty, exploitation, and lost potential.

CYPF believes that education is both a right and a tool for protection. Children who are educated are less vulnerable to child labour, abuse, early marriage, and trafficking. When equipped with skills—whether digital, creative, vocational, or interpersonal—children are empowered to imagine and build better futures for themselves and their communities.

As we mark this important day, CYPF is calling on

• Government stakeholders to increase investment in child-friendly, inclusive education systems that promote both academic learning and practical skills.
  
• Schools and educators to integrate child protection, mental health awareness, and digital literacy into teaching.
  
• Parents and caregivers are to support lifelong learning and nurture the talents and well-being of their children.
  
• The private sector and development partners are to champion innovation in skills training, mentorship, and youth empowerment programs.
  
• Civil society is to continue raising awareness, driving accountability, and amplifying the voices of children.
  

Through its community-based initiatives, advocacy efforts, and partnerships across Nigeria, CYPF remains committed to ensuring that children are seen, heard, and supported in every aspect of their growth—from education to health, protection, and beyond.
